DeepSummary
In 1989, a father and son discovered a disturbing VHS tape on the side of a road near Stockton, California, containing footage of a house burning down, filmed by the apparent arsonist. Investigators found camouflage clothing and occult-related items nearby, suggesting a satanic motive. After hitting dead ends, they sought help from the TV show Unsolved Mysteries, which prompted viewers to identify the burned house's location as Redwood City.
Two teenagers, Omar and Jason, confessed to setting fires in the Emerald Lake Hills neighborhood, including the one on the tape. Authorities found evidence of Jason's disturbing behavior, such as animal mutilation and violent role-playing. Though their motives were unclear, the fires may have stemmed from anger over new housing developments in the once rural area.
The pair was tried as minors and received rehabilitation sentences. Though the case became infamous as the 'Stockton Arsonist,' the fires actually occurred nearly 90 miles away in a different county. The mysterious tape's journey to Stockton remains unexplained.
