More on: NASA Artemis Program

The NASA Artemis Program is the agency's new initiative to return humans to the Moon, starting with the Artemis I uncrewed test flight in 2022 and leading up to the Artemis III mission that aims to land astronauts on the lunar surface in 2026.

In preparation for the Artemis III mission, NASA astronauts have been performing extensive training and simulations, including moonwalking exercises in volcanic fields to mimic the conditions they will face at the lunar south pole. These training efforts are described in detail in the Nature Podcast episode on how NASA is training for the 2026 Moon landing.

The Artemis program and its progress have also been covered in other podcasts, such as the Skeptics' Guide to the Universe episode that provided an update on the Artemis program, including potential delays and developments in spacesuits and communication systems.
